Abrasive Blast Cleaning

Abrasive Blasting involves removing surface film from a part by using abrasive directed at high velocity against the part. Abrasive blasting includes bead, grit, shot, and sand blasting, and may be performed either dry or with water. The primary applications of wet abrasive blasting include: Removing burrs on precision parts; producing satin or matte finishes; removing fine tool marks; and removing light mill scale, surface oxide, or welding scale. Wet blasting can be used to finish fragile items such as electronic components. Also, some aluminum parts are wet blasted to achieve a fine-grained matte finish for decorative purposes. In abrasive blasting, the water and abrasive typically are reused until the particle size diminishes due to impacting and fracture.Abrasive Blasting or air blasting is a method of propelling abrasive using a compressed gas (typically air) or pressurized liquid (typically water) as the propellant. There are numerous generic terms for this application usually related to the abrasive media in use; common terms include sand blasting, shot blasting, grit blasting, bead blasting and blast cleaning.
Abrasive Blasting is the operation of cleaning or preparing a surface by forcibly propelling a stream of abrasive material against it. Usually explained as the use of a material against another material to make it smoother, remove surface contaminants or to roughen a surface. It is also the appropriate term for what is known as glass bead blasting, sandblasting, sand carving, sodablasting or shot blasting.Abrasive Blasting is the cleaning or preparing of a surface by forcibly propelling a stream of abrasive material against the surface using sand, glassbead, aluminum oxide, grit, slag, garnet, steel shot, walnut shells, and others. Abrasive blasting is being used in many different applications to:• remove rust, scale, and paint;• roughen surfaces in preparation for bonding, painting or coating;• remove burr; and/or• develop a matte surface finish.• Remove flash from molding operation.
