As a part of the new initiatives of the UGC in XI Plan for academic reforms, Dibrugarh University has introduced Semester System at the Under-Graduate (UG) level from 2011-2012 and is now in force. The thoroughly revised, restructured and updated course structure is as follows :
The duration of the programmes for Degree Courses is of three years. The Three Year Degree Course comprises 6 (six) semesters of which the 1st, 3rd and 5th semesters will be called Odd Semesters and the 2nd, 4th and 6th semester will be known as Even Semesters. The time-span of the Odd Semesters shall be from 15th June to 30th November, while that of the Even Semester from 1st January to 31st May. There shall be two In-Semester Examinations (First Sessional and Second Sessional Examinations) in the course of each Semester before the commencement of the End Semester Examination. The marks obtained by students in these examinations shall be notified department- wise in the Departmental Notice Board in the later part of September and in the month of October respectively.
The 1st Semester students will have to attend a Counselling Session which will be organized by the College Authority on 1st day of commencement of classes. There shall also be a Students’ Counselling Session and Mid Semester Feedback Assessment during the later part of August. The classes of the Odd Semesters (1st Semester, 3rd Semester and 5rd Semester) shall be completed by the end of November, every year and the ones of the Even Semesters (2nd Semester, 4th Semester and 6th Semester) by the end of May, every year.
Each paper will be of 100 marks of which 20 marks will be for Internal Assessment and 80% marks for End Semester Examination. Students will have to participate in the process of Internal Assessment compulsorily, failing which they will not be allowed to appear in the End-Semester Examination. A student cannot repeat In-Semester Examinations (Sessional Examinations). A student must obtain at least 40% marks in the End-Semester examinations or at least 40% marks in the course in aggregate in the In-Semester and End-Semester examinations.
There shall be one End Semester Examination of three hour duration carrying 80% marks in each course of a Semester covering the entire syllabus prescribed for the course. . The types of the courses and marks allotted to them in both General and Major Programmes may shown as follows:
