BORAX DECAHYDRATE CRYSTAL Borax Decahydrate is the refined form of natural sodium borate. Composed of boric oxide (B2O3), sodium oxide, and water, it is a mild, alkaline salt, white and crystalline, with excellent buffering and fluxing properties. Available in powder or granular form, Borax Decahydrate is an important multifunctional source of B2O3, particularly for processes in which the simultaneous presence of sodium is beneficial. Applications:Borax Decahydrate is incorporated in many cleaning products as a pH-buffering agent, to aid in the emulsification of oils, and as a gentle abrasive. Borax Decahydrate is added to powdered hand soaps to remove medium to heavy soils encountered in industrial operations. It is gentle to the skin, yet highly effective in removing dirt. Borax Decahydrate is used in cosmetics, toiletries and pharmaceuticals. In contact lens solutions, it is used in conjunction with boric acid as a gentle cleaner and buffering agent.

Borax Pentahydrate is a white, odorless crystalline granular or powder product. It is the most common form of sodium borate used in industry. Also known as Bor48 or '5 Mol Borax', it is mildly alkaline both alone and in solution. Compared to Borax decahydrate which is physio-chemically comparable, Borax Penta has higher boron content per unit mass, a lower ratio of bound water & is less hygroscopic. Applications:Borax Pentahydrate serves as a source of boric oxide (B2O3) in many compositions, including insulation fiberglass, textile fiberglass and borosilicate glasses (heat resistant, illumination, cookware, medical/cosmetic containers, hollow/solid microspheres, optical lenses and sealing glass). Borax Pentahydrate increases the strength, scratch resistance, and chemical resistance of ceramic wares such as wall and floor tiles, tableware and porcelain, and of enameled appliances.

Boric acid, also called hydrogen borate, boracic acid and orthoboric acid is a weak, monobasic Lewis acid of boron often used as an antiseptic, insecticide, flame retardant or neutron absorber. It has the chemical formula H3BO3 (sometimes written B(OH)3), and exists in the form of colorless crystals or a white powder that dissolves in water.
