NON-WOVEN: LIPPRITE® AND LIPPROX

Non-woven abrasive web consists of resin-bonded tangled artificial fibres, with embedded abrasive grit. The web is available in aluminum oxide (Al2O3) and in silicon carbide (SiC) and our range goes from grit sizes 80 to 1200.

General benefits

The three dimensional open web construction

  • Ensures a self-cleaning action
  • Prevents pick-up of contamination
  • Prevents generation of excessive heat or baking
  • Continuously exposes abrasive particles for a uniform finish throughout the whole service life
  • Permits effective contact with irregular thickness due to its density and flexibility
  • Reduces/substitutes chemical treatments
  • Ensures surface treatment with less rejection and improved preparation for further processing

Osborn offers two types of non-woven abrasive rollers and wheels: Lipprite® and Lipprox®. Lipprite® is mainly used for surface cleaning, oxide removal, decorative finishes and light deburring, Lipprox® is specifically used for deburring, some coil cleaning prior to coating, and precision oxide removal.
The product

Lipprite permits homogeneous and constant work, with regular wear over the entire surface. The flap construction provides flexibility and adaptability to all types of profiles. The dimensional range of possibilities allow us to supply you with many options for technical applications: rollers up to 2.6 meters wide are used in the stainless steel industry, smaller rollers are used in the PCB or porcelain industry, and there are wheels for all types of manual and precision work.

The convolute construction of the non-woven abrasive web gives this product a consistency and precision, only possible with the specially developed foams from Osborn. Lipprox® are ideal for deburring since they offer considerably longer life and higher performance than comparable flap rollers. Available in widths 6.5 mm to 950 mm – the outer diameter can vary from 50 mm to 600 mm.

Density

The number of flaps (density) influences directly the hardness of the product and its capacity to adapt to different shapes. The grade of abrasive non-woven is selected depending on the application and desired finish.

For certain applications Osborn has developed special treatments for Lipprite® that harden the product, increasing the abrasive action and extending service life. Please contact our Technical Team for more details.

Hardness

The hardness of Lipprox® is determined by the foam type as well as the volume of non-woven that is wound around the core. Our Technical Team can offer their advice depending on your application and the desired outcome.

HIGH-PERFORMANCE ROLLERS In filament- and wire-brush as well as non-woven technology Wide-Face Brushes are very versatile. They can be used for raw metal processing, circuit board cleaning, food handling, conveyor cleaning, and many other production line applications. For our Roller Brushes we use Novofil® synthetic filaments and various types of special wire as well as stainless steel wire, brass wire, brass-coated steel wire, tampico fibre, Bessemer steel wire and phosphor-bronze wire, natural hair and mixtures. We can provide new or refurbished wide face brushes with custom arbors of nearly any length or diameter. Helimaster® Brush Rolls Helimaster® brush rolls are perfect for cleaning work- and back-up rolls in wet or dry operated rolling and skin-pass mills. They control the oxide layer and remove oxide, debris and other residues. Helimaster® brush rolls can be designed as wire or abrasive brush. Each brush is neutrally grounded at the radius and axially it gets either a cylindrical camber ground or - for balancing the computed roll deflection - a positive and/or negative camber ground. Depending on the process, steel, stainless less or aluminum can be optimally treated. It is important that the brush tool really matches with the operational and processing parameters. Especially reproducibility of the specified aggressiveness and brush effectiveness as well as a constant performance until the roller is exchanged are crucial. Helimaster® brush rolls are only one example for Osborn's special wide-face brush rollers. For usage in the metals processing technology Osborn also manufacturers a wide range of other high-performance brush rolls, non-woven rolls, complete brush roll systems as well as brushing machines. Get the full overview in the chapter on Factory Assembly Brush Roll Systems (Type FA) At Osborn we combine globally collected know-how with a local all-round service directly on-site. In addition to re-brushing shafts or assembling brush-cassettes on-site, we also offer all necessary inspections, repair and service work. Our services include: Brush roll re-filling Integrated maintenance service concepts Re-trimming and re-balancing of brush rolls Shaft and journals control / repair Bearing control and repair Optimizing the shaft construction Shaft straigthening Stress relief annealing Replacement of end- and balancing collars Replacement of fittings and accessories Transport- and packaging concepts Supply of brush roll trimming equipment Customer Assembly Brush Roll Systems (Type CA) For customers who want to recover and maintain their brush rolls inhouse, we provide roller system for self-assembly. We can provide cassettes in fully-automatic interally-welded spiral constructions or constructions assembled on one-way tube bodies as well single discs or loose spirals for older systems. In order to individually adapt these to existing shaft constructions. they are additionally procided with one-was adapters, if required. Therefore we can supply the right cassette for almost any shaft. All usual filaments, wires or natural bristles can be used, all according to individual requirements such as different trim lengths and densities. Cooling through hollow shafts Body constructions with hollow shafts for internal cooling are primarily used in abrasive brushes for heavy-duty applications. Apart from increased brush-cooling at high frictional heat, they continuously rinse the brush from inside out by centrifugal force. Especially when the brush is being used in corrosive mediums, this helps to increase the service life of the brush. The advantages at a glance: Punched Roller Brushes Punched roller brushes can be manufactured in different lengths, forms and diameters, and with different fill materials. Punched roller brushes are manufactured with wood or plastic bodies and can also be supplied with a steel shaft if requested.

The unique capabilities of power brushes can provide solutions to many challenging production problems. Osborn engineers are a valuable resource to help optimize your process with power brushes – simply contact us to arrange for a free consultation.

Fill Materials

A wide range of fill materials are available in power brushes to provide just the right action on the workpiece:

  • Wire – Wire brushes are ideal for heavy duty applications such as deburring, parting line removal, weld cleaning and weld prep, descaling, rust and paint removal, pipeline fitting and seam cleaning, hose skiving and rubber flash removal, wire stripping, spot facing, and more. Finer wire can be used for polishing and texturing.
    • Materials:
      • Steel
      • Stainless Steel
      • Brass
      • Other non-ferrous metals
    • Configurations:
      • Wire sizes from 0,15 to 0,80 mm
      • Crimped or straight wire
      • Resin-bonded for extra aggression
  • High-tech-brushes with highly-abrasive nylon fill material are the cutting edge in brushing technology. They are best suited to precision part finishing applications such as deburring and edge radiusing. Brushing cells can be integrated in production lines to eliminate manual finishing operations. Brushes can be added to tool changers in CNC machining centers for automated in-place deburring. Robots can be fitted with chucked brushes to finish stationary parts, or they can utilize bench motor styles for fixtured part handling.
  • Other fibers These kinds of brushes are used for special applications, such as chrome polishing, electrical contact cleaning, plastic flash removal, glass cleaning, and other jobs where wire or abrasive brushes are not appropriate.
    • Natural fibers: tampico, horsehair, bristle
    • Polymer fibers: nylon, polypro

Brush Configurations

Wheel or Radial: These brushes are center-mounted on a shank or arbor, and the outside edge or "face" of the brush contacts the workpiece. Radial brushes can be mounted in multiples to produce wider face widths.

Cup: The shape of this brush allows for many more filaments to contact the workpiece at once, resulting in much more aggressive brushing action. Can be used in hand tools such as angle grinders and drilling machines.

End: Filaments are packed into a small shanked cup. During operation, the filaments flare out to contact recessed areas. End brush filaments can also be bridled to allow for precision spot finishing.

Internal: Also known as a "side-action" brush, they are commonly used for cleaning and finishing of bores, cylinders and internal threads. Especially useful for cross hole deburring.

Wide Face: For raw metal processing, circuit board scrubbing, food handling, conveyor cleaning, and many other production line applications. Osborn can provide new or refurbished wide face brushes with custom arbors of nearly any length or diameter.

PREMIUM POLISHES AND COMPOUNDS

At its facility in Haan Osborn produces a complete assortment of finest polishes and compounds for nearly all polishing applications and surfaces for industry and trade.

Brand names such as UNIPOL®, DIALUX®, LANGSOL® und CANNING® stand for polishing applications with highest demands in finish quality, performance, cost-per-piece and economic efficiency.

Osborn offers for each step (brushing, satinizing, cutting, polishing or coloring) the perfect recipe, no matter if it is for manual processing at a polishing lathe or for fully automated buffing machines.

And this also matters to us: Only with matching Osborn-Polishingtools the performance of our premium compounds is brought to perfection. Compounds need a medium like buffs out of sisal, sisal/cloth, cotton or NOTIFLEX®. Applicable are also brushes with natural fibres, tampico or animal hair as chunking or less often also wire. For an overview on suitable polishing tools please see our chapter on BUFFS

Polishes

Liquid compounds are primarily used on polishing machines. The use of liquid compound results in a cooler polishing process.

The compound is stored in pressure tanks or reusable containers with membrane pumps. Especially with industrial manufacturers who need large quantities, a centralized feeding system assures a contiunous flow of material, reduces downtime and increases productivity.

We are looking forward to helping you find the necessary equipment for a centralized supply: permanent or reusable containters, pressure tanks, high- and low-pressure spray-guns, membrane pumps and all spare parts.

Compounds

  • Originally compounds were only used for manual polishing at the polishing lathe. This is still one of the most common usages today and is traditionally very important to Osborn.
  • The increasing usage of polishing robots and large bar compounds enables economic polishing also for small batch series and complicated high precision workpieces. Osborn offers the so-called "robot-bars" for all existing widths.
  • Tailored for business and individual usage, e.g. for hand-operated machines, Osborn offers large scale industry approved materials in different sizes and shapes.
