How It Works
When raw water containing ferrous iron or manganese passes through the greensand bed:
Dissolved iron (Fe²⁺) is oxidized to ferric iron (Fe³⁺)
Manganese is oxidized and precipitated
The oxidized particles are retained within the media bed
Periodic backwashing removes the accumulated solids and restores filtration efficiency. In some applications, regeneration using an oxidizing agent may be applied to restore catalytic activity.
