About The Owner
“Art does not reproduce the visible; rather, it makes visible.”
My art work believes in the visibility of posing questions rather than answering it. Art is the highest medium of expressing the inert eye, the window of the preconscious mind. My art follows a revolving cycle of change. As I grow a difference in my perception grows. I create forms casting them a varied shape and sensitization.
Since my childhood I have seen my mother weaving 'Nakshi Kantha' a peculiar cloth work of varied thread and linen. I can regard my mother as the true artist as she created forms, color schemes which were totally different and was blessed with uniqueness. All the artistic qualities I am vested with have come from my mother. She even made ‘talpata’r chatai’ and various accessories out of coconut and different varieties of leaves. My mother Mrs. Tara Chowdhury, born and brought up in Bangladesh has created different varieties of art works in clay and cloth which had both the Indian and Bangladeshi fervor.
As time passed I grew up seeing my mother and playing with clay. I took up professional training in 2003 in the Government College of Art and Craft. The man who first taught me to handle wood with care, to which I owe all my artistic excellence, is none other than Mr. Akhil Chandra Das. He taught me the aspects of wood, wood as the material of creative ecstasy. I got introduced to various forms of art both national and international. The excavations at the Ajanta, Ellora caves changed my thought process. I got inspired from the mixed realism and abstract-ism of Salvador Dali. The grandeur of Michelangelo, Ramkinkar Baij has colored my imagination.
I think my sculptures should epitomize the “Nihil Ultra”. They portray grandeur, space, oblivion, age inside a boundary. I treat life, death and living in a different way. Boons of drops can give birth to a sea. This aspiration lies in my work ‘Bindu thecke Sindhu’. To me the simple seller of fruits is the prime attractor of people. The “seller’s” keen intention to see through others and beyond, to shout and call for buyers has made me to make his double powerful double pair of eyes and two lips. A creator’s mind is full of thoughts filled with imaginations which pass through his wide spectrum of mind themed eyes. Out of those various thousand thoughts only one or two gets the true color while others are in the processing. This mode of creative frenzy forms my work “Depiction of thinking”. An artist is first a thinker before he creates. Vision or thought process here also acts as a theme for me. I think that everybody needs a medium to see through. So, my created “Viewfinder” finds life, simplicity, hidden emotions through the frames of glasses. I change, I grow with time and I see through all the influences and in constant strive to create my own creation.
