The Healthcare sector is largely dependent on the results of laboratory tests used to support diagnosis in patient care as well as medical research.

The test results therefore should be reliable, accurate and reproducible. Generation of such 'quality' results involves a step wise process of meticulous planning, perfect execution and thorough checking of results. The Medical Laboratory Technology is an allied health/paramedical profession and is a vital tool in the diagnosis and study of the various diseases for proper treatment. In the rapidly growing area of scientific knowledge and skills, laboratory science is an imperative area of study leading to generation of skilled Medical Laboratory Technologists.

Considering the immense requirement of such trained professionals, the Department of Health and Life Sciences, TeamLease Skills University is offering a 1 year (2 Semester) Diploma Program, which aims at teaching and training candidates in Medical Laboratory Technology not only to impart theoretical knowledge but also to focus on the practical training of latest Medical Laboratory testing methodologies and techniques.

The Program is designed with specific inputs, requirements and recommendations from the industry, based on the latest technologies available and in practice, for individuals interested in entering the field of Clinical laboratory science. The program will cover not only the basics of para-clinical subjects such as Haematology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Serology and Blood Banking, but also an intensive practical training along with the basics of computer application relevant to the requirement at the work place. The program will be offered to candidates who have cleared their 10+2 examinations with Science subjects regardless of the medium of instruction. Taking into account both globalization as well as digitalization, as well as the nature of the job at a Medical Laboratory involving generating reports, deciphering information related to continual up gradation of sophisticated instrumentation as well as interacting with both the patient and the pathologist, the role Communication Skills as well as basic Computer skills are a requirement of the job. The program is designed in such a way aiming at not only teaching the basics of English but also grooming and overall personality development of the candidate. The 1 year Diploma will ensure that the candidate is Job-ready by undergoing a monitored and evaluated 3 months On the Job Training as part of the Diploma Program. Clinical research is an important branch of healthcare science that defines and determines the safety and effectiveness (efficacy) of specific health and medical products and practices including medications, devices, diagnostic products and treatment regimens intended for human use which may be used for prevention, treatment, diagnosis or for relieving symptoms of a disease. Clinical research describes many different elements of scientific investigation. It involves human participants and helps translate basic research (done in labs) into new treatments and information to benefit patients. Clinical trials as well as research in epidemiology, physiology and pathophysiology, health services, education, outcomes and mental health can all fall under the clinical research umbrella.

Clinical researchers aims at advancing medical knowledge by conducting studies that involve people, either through direct interaction or through the collection and analysis of blood, tissues, or other samples. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India has highlighted that Clinical research is the key to the discovery of latest diagnostic methods and to develop modern drugs for treatment of diseases. Good Clinical Practices (GCP) is an ethical and scientific quality standard for designing, conducting and recording trials that involve the participation of human subjects. Compliance with this standard provides assurance to public that the rights, safety and well-being of trial subjects are protected, consistent with the principles enshrined in the Declaration of Helsinki and ensures that clinical trial data are credible.

Program Objective

• Will be able to prepare protocol and CRF under supervision
• Should be able to collect the CRF from the staff at site and be able to report in a given format

• Will be able to understand basics of clinical data management and medical writing

Radiotherapy is one of the treatment modality in management of cancers of various part of body. This treatment is given through various types of radiation sources. The radiation source is pre-loaded or the radiation is generated as photon and electron beams. These machines need highly skilled operators, and therefore extensive knowledge of their working with good background of Physics. Radiation therapy technologists (RTTs) play an important role in the professional health care team, working closely with radiation oncologists and medical physicists in the delivery of optimal treatments, primarily to cancer patients. The RTT's operate radiation equipment to deliver high energy ionizing radiation treatments. In addition to delivering treatment to patients, they demonstrate care and empathy to guide the patients through the treatment process. They are the crucial link between the clinical and the physical sciences in radiotherapy, being responsible for a critical step in radiotherapy process that is delivery of radiation to the cancer patients. Therefore, interacting with clinicians (radiation oncologists), physical scientists (medical physicists) and the patients is an important part of their profession. Apart from handling the radiotherapy equipment, patient immobilization and set-up; the other important responsibilities of the RTTs include patient monitoring for radiation related (or other visible) effects when the patients report for treatment planning (or simulation or radiotherapy sessions). The RTTs complete the final step in safe and precise treatment delivery to the patients. To discharge these important responsibilities, the RTTs should be equipped with the necessary education and skills during their education and training. The scope for practice of the RTTs is increasing with advancement of technology and increasing patient load.

Program Objective

The programme structure is designed to train students to work in conjunction with radiation oncology team including radiation oncologists, medical physicists and other members, in the application of prescribed doses of ionizing radiation for the treatment of malignant or benign disease. The course work includes physics, anatomy and physiology, dosimetry, clinical oncology, radiation safety, research methodology, patient and data management, and teaching methodologies. The student will be skilled in management of patients, administration of prescribed radiation treatment, provision of patient support, and imparting education to students and young professionals in the field.

At the completion of this course, the student should be:

• Able to execute all routine radio therapeutic procedures as per prescription of Radiation Oncologist.
• Able to assist the radiation oncologist and medical physicist in treatment of cancer patients, radiotherapy planning & procedures, and implementation of new equipment/technology.
• Able to provide adequate knowledge about the safe handling of medical radiation sources, keeping in mind the radiation protection of staff, patients and public.
• Able to transfer knowledge and skills to students as well as younger professionals.
• Able to actively participate and also independently work in research in the field of radiotherapy delivery/clinical research/trials and related areas.
