While development is much needed specially to house the increasing city dwellers, the little that is remaining of urban ecology is diminishing. In Bangalore along approximately 75000 new homes are being built every year. The once occurring nesting trees are being cut down for building driving the poor little birds further out of the city.   pockets within the city is the only respite for plants and animals that have lost their native habitat to development. As development continues wildlife is forced to depend upon our human-dominated landscapes for their continued survival.

We at UrbanMali believe that us urban citizens can definitely help bring back all the urban biodiversity that we saw in plenty decades ago. City garden have an important role to play in the future of wildlife. Gardens have the power to make a significant contribution towards a variety in both plants and animals, bringing nature home.

Keeping a large garden clean can be quite a task. More than starting a new garden, the maintenance of an existing garden can be a challenge. Any garden requires regular care and attention, and if the garden is large like that of an apartment complex, hotel, villa community, corporate office, or any institution the challenge can be even more as these gardens need to look good all the time since these gardens are mostly created with an aesthetic appeal.

We use only organic methods to maintain our gardens. All our products are naturally sourced and prepared by the gardeners themselves.

We looked to see what landscape designs needed to make a powerful impact on people and the Earth. We realized that they needed to be interactive and responsive. They had to be re-generative and contribute to mental and physical health of its communes. They should also contribute to the health of their soils and biodiversity. This seemed like a tall order, but then we all know, that was how landscapes existed just a century and a half back, for millions of years before that.

We wondered how we could surmount this challenge of lost connectedness to nurturing nature. We wondered, too, how we could empower builders – the group of people ‘developing’ land parcels – to promote amongst communes, spaces that exponentially promoted mental and physical health of their families and friends. With some serious innovation exercises, we put together thoughts, ideas and wishes that grew from a collective wish of bringing to the table a set of designs that warm any heart and instantly create a nature connection for all.

We have designed many empowering gardens that communicate all the yearnings we had for nature in the city. Each of our gardens are filled with plants and trees relevant for their various unique roles. These are species indigenous to the area in question in any part of the globe. We are networked with scientists and botanists who would work with us to ensure the indigenous nature of such species. These plants are plenty in number and can make for very beautiful landscape elements.
