The craftsman of the chair, Shri Guru Mayum Shyam Sunder Sharma belongs to a great family of artists which migrated to Manipur from Krishnanagar in West Bengal in the 15th century. A humble and deft craftsman Shri Shyam Sunder’s artisanship leaves one mesmerised and enchanted. His great great grand father, Shri Rupa Parmand Thakur was the Dharm Guru to King Bhagya Chandra who conferred upon him the title of ‘Guru Mayum’ which is still used by the family.
