Heat exchanger (shell & tube, coil, plate, U tube bundle, double pipe, flot type exchangers) is used to control a system’s or substance’s temperature by adding or removing thermal energy. Although heat exchangers are in many different sizes, levels of sophistication, and types; all the heatexchangers use a thermally conducting element usually in the form of a tube or plate to separate two fluids, such that one can transfer thermal energy to the other.

FLUID FLOW IN HEAT EXCHANGER (shell & tube, U tube bundle, plate)

Inside a heat exchanger (shell & tube, U tube bundle, plate, coil, double tube, stacked type heat exchangers), the fluid flow is either turbulent or laminar. Turbulent flow produces better heat transfer, because it mixes the fluid. Laminar-flow heat transfer relies entirely on the thermal conductivity of the fluid to transfer heat from inside a stream to a heatexchanger wall.

Nickel Fusion Spares are most commonly used for converting 55% Concentrated Caustic Lye into 98% concentrated Flakes.

The caustic lye of 32 – 35% concentration from the membrane cell will be passed to Single / Double / Triple stage evaporator for making 48% concentration at 50oC & stored in an intermediate storage tank.

Then Lye will be sent to PreConcentrator by Nickel Pump, after 55% preconcentration at 90 oC will be sent to preheater, where it will be heated up to 100 oC and shall be pumped to Raising / Falling Film Evaporator by means of Nickel Pump.

The outlet of caustic lye will be of 76% concentrated at 145 oC shall be passed to Nickel Seal Pot, which in turn pumped to the Final Concentrator by Nickel Pump.

Molten Salt at 430oC will be passed through the outer shell of Nickel concentrator element. The 76% concentrated lye will be passed through several Nickel concentrator Tubes which will be concentrated to 98% caustic and will be collected by Nickel Lye Collection cup and passed through Nickel Tray. Then Nickel vapor duct (separators) separates the vapor at 300 oC and will be sent to Pre- Concentrator.

The 98% concentrated lye will be sent to the Nickel Vat over which there will be a scrapping drum contains chilled water at 30 oC, these 98% lye will get deposited on the outer surface of the drum which rotates and scraps the flakes and collected.

TiTaN’s Sodium chlorate manufacturing system consists of Electrolyzers, a reactor, a cooler, Crystallizer, Centrifuge, Dryer, Inter-connecting piping. When direct current is applied, the hydrogen gas is evolved at the Cathode, which displaces and reduces the specific gravity of the electrolyte in the electrolyser and the outlet piping. The differential specific gravity between the in the electrolyser and that in the reactor creates a high rate of circulation. The circulation is through the cooler, into the bottom of each cell in the electrolyser, between the anodes and cathodes in the cells.

Where electrolysis occur, up the riser pipes to the degasifier (where the hydrogen separates) and back to the top of the reactor.The heat produced in the electrolysers is removed by an external cooler, which maintains the electrolytic system at its optimum operating temperature. The reactor is designed to provide the retention time required for conversion of intermediate reaction products to sodium chlorate.The liquor from the reactor is treated to remove the sodium hypochlorite and then fed to the crystallization system. The crystallization system consists of a crystallizer, Vacuum equipment, a centrifuge and dryer. The crystallizer operates under vacuum conditions. In the vessel, water is flashed from hot incoming hypo-free chlorate liquor and crystal formation and growth takes place. The mother liquor is returned to the Electrolysers. The crystals are washed and dried to form the final product.

Sodium Chlorate Manufacturing Process

The manufacturing process of Sodium chlorate involves the electrolysis of an acidified sodium chloride solution in a specially designed Electrolyser.First, raw brine is treated to remove impurities such as calcium and magnesium. Hydrochloric acid (HCl) is added to control the pH and improve efficiency. Sodium dichromate is used as a catalyst, to inhibit electrochemical side reactions and as a pH buffer.

TiTaN's state of art RT CHLOR® SERIES BATCH HYPOCHLORITE generation systems (NaOCl Generators) / electrochlorinator converts brine solution to hypochlorite with the applied current voltage, by means of electrolysis into 1st grade sodium hypochlorite (ELECTRO HYPO). Hypochlorite thus generated are applied on-site, at the point of application. No chemicals other than common salt (food grade NaCl) are used throughout the process.

BATCH HYPO PRODUCTION (6-8hrs batch) : A saturated brine solution mixed with softened water (batch) fed through the hypochlorite generating electrolyzer(s). TiTaN's state of art RT CHLOR® SERIES hypochlorite generation systems / electrochlorinator is result of more than 29 years of experience in design & manufacturing electrolyser for various electrochemical applications.

ON SITE ELECTROCHLORINATION (BRINE CHLORINATION) It is a simple and proven technology to convert ordinary salt (common salt), by means of electrolysis into 1st grade sodium hypochlorite (ELECTRO HYPO) using RT CHLOR® SERIES hypochlorite generators ( electro chlorinator system). It is always applied on-site, at the Point of Application.

No chemicals other than ordinary salt are used throughout the process. A diluted brine solution is fed through an electrolyser cell ( chlorinator ). When a low voltage DC current is applied, electrolysis occurs and sodium hypo chlorite (NaOCl) is generated instantaneously. ELECTRO HYPO is generated between 0.2% and 0.8% depending on the application. Below 1%, hypo is classified as a non-hazardous chemical although still a very effective disinfectant. The only by-product, hydrogen, is safely vented into the atmosphere.

Electro chemical activation is an environmentally safe process for water treatment needs. In order to generate electro-chemically active, environmentally friendly, highly active solutions of anolyte or catholyte, a diluted saline solution is passed through a flow through electrolyzer. TiTaN's flow through electrolyser consists of two chambers separated by a diaphragm with anode and cathode made of titanium or other rare metals

The electric current is passed through the saline solution in the electrolyzer which induces reaction and separates the anolyte and catholyte solutions. The diaphragm separates the anolyte and catholyte and keeps them apart and prevents mixing.

Three different products are produced using ECA technology which includes, anolyte, catholyte and ANK solution containing ions from both anolyte and catholyte. Products are produced as reactive ions or reactive free radicals or reactive molecules. Each product has their respective advantages built up by oxidation or reduction potential (ORP).

MODERN CHLOR-ALKALI PROCESS

With the advent of ion-exchange membranes,a new era began in chlor alkali cell design and hence membrane cell process as a whole has become superior to the conventional mercury and diaphragm cell processes.

In chlor-alkali industries Chlorine (Cl2), Hydrogen (H2) and Sodium Hydroxide ( caustic soda - NaOH ) are manufactured by means of electrolysis process.

In chlor alkali industries three types of electrolytic process are adopted such as:

: : Membrane cell process

: : Diaphragm cell process

: : Mercury cell processes

In each process salt ( brine ) solution is electrolyzed by the action of direct electric current, which converts the chloride ions to chlorine.

The reaction is :
2NaCl + 2H2O = Cl2 + H2 + 2NaOH

In all the methods chlorine (Cl2) is produced at the positive electrode ( anode ) and the hydrogen (H2) and Sodium Hydroxide ( NaOH or caustic soda ) are produced directly or indirectly at the negative electrode ( cathode ).

Membrane or Diaphragm or Mercury is used to separate the anode products from the cathode products according the process adopted.
