NITROGEN PLANT PROCESS
Atmospheric air contains 78 % of nitrogen & 21% of oxygen. Nitrogen in PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption) Method is generated by Physical separation of oxygen from atmospheric air and outlet the Nitrogen is collected for use.

The compressed air is passed through PSA Tower which is interconnected with automatic changeover valves. In this Process, We can provide separate /Desiccant air Dryer. This has tendency of adsorbing moisture from compressed air. After that Dried compressed air will now come in contact with bed of carbon molecular sieves (CMS). Carbon Molecular Sieves are special grade of adsorbent which have the property of preferential adsorption of oxygen molecules. At a time one tower remains under nitrogen production cycle, whereas the other tower undergoes regeneration which is achieved through depressurization of the tower to atmospheric pressure. The two towers of PSA modules are inter-connected with automatic changeover valves through pneumatic signal given by solenoid valve which in turn get the electrical signal from the timer provided in the control panel. The changeover time cycle will be 1 + 1 minute. The outgoing nitrogen gas is sent to a surge vessel where the minimum nitrogen pressure will be maintained with the help of Back pressure Regulator. The product nitrogen will now be sent to the consumer point through a pressure reducing valves at required pressure.

In HOC type dryer, hot air at 140 degree Celsius to 160 degree Celsius from Compressor discharge is directly used for the desiccant regeneration. Running cost of this dryer is virtually NIL. It has two drying towers filled with the Activated alumina / Molecular sieve desiccant and they alternate in process every 4-hour automatically.

Compressed air directly from air compressor discharge is taken to air dryer inlet through pipelines at 140 degree Celsius (Min) temperature. This hot air is passed one drying vessel where saturated desiccant is regenerated by this high temperature air. After picking up moisture from bed, this air is cooled in an intermediate cooler. Here moisture is condensed and removed by an auto drain trap. At 40 degree Celsius temperature this air passes through second drying vessel where moisture gets adsorbed and dry air comes out. Cycle time is (2 + 2)hours regeneration and (2 + 2)hours drying. After 4-hours changeover of vessels takes place. In the regeneration cycle heating of the bed is only for 2-hours and thereafter the bed is cooled by dry air. Dry air is cooled to 40 degree Celsius temperature before going out of the air dryer.

Due to NIL operating cost, this design is becoming more popular. To utilize full heat energy of compressor discharge, HOC type dryer should be located very close to compressor discharge. These dryers are recommended only for Dew-Point (-) 40 degree Celsius and the capacities above 500 Nm3 /hr. In smaller capacity the hot air discharge does not reach 140 degree Celsius and hence this design can't be used.

Energy conservation by heat of Compression type compressed air dryer is a breakthrough in compressed air drying technology. The hot air from the compressor at 140 °C and higher temperature is used directly for regeneration of the desiccant. After regeneration, this air is cooled down to 40 °C and then it is dried in second tower. Thus the use of heaters is eliminated cycle the hot air is fed for regeneration for 4 hours and for balance 2 hrs. a changeover takes place where the air is first cooled in cooler, then dried and before going to the outlet, cools the regenerated desiccant bed, thus bringing it down to ambient temperature.

This cycle is reversed for next 4 hours where the adsorbed drying the air in the previous cycle goes for regeneration and vice versa. The dryer is fully automatic with pneumatically actuated Ball/plug valves. A sequence timer controls operation of these valves. There is considerable power saving in this type of Air Dryers and the dew point is also better than the refrigerated type of dryers whereas, the power consumption is almost negligible.

Air/Gas drying takes place by adsorption. Dry Air from chamber-A outlet then passes through the outlet valve assembly and through the after-filter to the dry gas receiver tank. A Heatless Air Dryer is the simplest form of desiccant type gas or air dryer for achieving a dew point of -40 deg Celsius or better for compressed air systems and other gas and air dryer application. While gas is being dried in chamber-A, the desiccant in chamber-B which has been humidified in the previous cycle is being simultaneously regenerated.

Chamber-B is depressurized, in the downward direction and the vent gas is released to atmosphere through a purge valve. A controlled portion of the dry gas is used to flush out the desorbed moisture from chamber-B desiccant. When the regeneration is complete, the purge valve is closed and chamer-B is slowly re-pressurized to line pressure for a smooth changeover. A drying period of 5 minutes provides an efficient dew-point of -40 deg. Celsius or better (at atmospheric pressure). In regeneration process approximately 60 seconds are required for re-pressurization.

Process gas heatless desiccant dryers are factory skid-mounted and pre-commissioned. They are fully automatic and require no Special Attention. All operations take place automatically and gas Dryness remains consistent. Our Heatless air dryers are compact, economical, pre assembled, fully automatic type of units with very little power consumption of around 100 watts. In this Dryer the inlet air Temp is 40 to 45 Deg C. and this air we will goes upto 180 Deg C. with the help of external Heater. Internally Heated Dryer is an improvised version of heatless dryer where purge air loss is very low due to regeneration is achieved by dry air at low pressure and at high temperature. To save on purge loss & Getting a Batter Dew Point Up to Minus 60 to 65 Deg C, here part of wet air is circulated through a heater thereby increasing its moisture carrying capacity, which is used for regeneration. In this type of dryer incoming wet air is divided in a distributor. 60-70% of wet air goes for drying while 30-40% of wet air is circulated through a heater thereby increasing its temperature which then takes out the moisture from desiccant bed and then it is cooled in an after cooler where moisture is condensed and drained out in moisture separator.
