In the modern world, the usage of rubber, both synthetic and natural–is innumerable. It is considered highly sustainable due to its renewable quality. The demand for natural rubber is high in the market. Asia produces the highest amount of natural rubber in the world. In India, Kerala is the largest producer of rubber followed by Tripura.India is the second largest consumer of rubber, but a ‘distant second’ (to China). There is vast potential for further development of tyre and other rubber-based industries in India. Hence India is well-poised to be a hub of the global rubber industry. Rubber is already an important raw material for a number of industries but natural rubber is in short supply all over the world. In India too, the production falls short of demand. The Indian Rubber Board and Indian State Governments have to explore ways and means to expand rubber cultivation in new areas and increase productivity. Private investment partnerships being proposed in this prospective can be a useful tool to state governments.Existing Rubber Plantations in the Northeast are producing good annual latex yields. TVB and our private sector partners hope our partnership developments can further add additional land under rubber cultivation. The favorable climatic conditions found in the Northeast are suitable for the flourishing growth of rubber trees and nearly 4,50,000 hectares of the region’s arable lands has already been marked for rubber farming. Farmers in the regions are now fast realizing the economical viability of rubber cultivation and they have started growing these valuable cash crops on a larger scale.Rubber cultivation is a labor-intensive practice and thus generates rural employment. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s Rubber Board has implemented various projects such as the ‘Accelerated Development of Rubber Plantation’ and ‘Rubber Development’ in the North East. Awareness camps and training programs are being held for farmers. Besides, subsidies and work, land is also provided to them.Another positive aspect of rubber cultivation is its ecological benefits. Rubber plants enrich soil’s organic matter by litter recycling and at the same time prevent soil erosion. The overall analysis of rubber plantation in the Northeast seems quite profitable, both economically and environmentally.TVB Group International and our Indian partners have earmarked to invest Rs 50 Crore over the next 3 years to develop and cultivate Rubber Plantations on 1500 Hectares of currently unproductive land in the North East Region of India via Private Partnerships with engaged local State Governments. This new development will empower and provide marginalized farmers and local tribal people with the opportunity to participate in wealth creation long term sustainable employment within the Rubber business sector.+ Read More
