Resistance Calibration Standards

Resistance Calibration Standards are required critically in a variety of electrical and electronic calibration needs viz. the calibration of RTD sensors, thermocouples, electrical meters, transformers conductors, calibration of Meggers and Insulation Testers etc.

 

Reliability: Vaiseshika Resistance Calibration Standards have been constructed from Manganin alloy (composition: Copper 86 %, Manganese 12 % and Nickel 2%). Manganin alloy is characterized by a low temperature co-efficient of the order of /- 1 ppm (between 20 Deg. C to 50 Deg. C), which means the value of resistance remains unaffected by variations in temperature. Every resistance coil is subjected to accelerated ageing and temperature cycling for obtaining precision resistance. These features, coupled together, provide excellent reliability to Resistance Standards.

 

Accuracy: Resistance Standards are available with accuracy of the order of /- 0.01%. Accuracies vary from application to application (please refer detailed specifications).

 

Repeatability: Vaiseshika Resistance Calibration Units are standardized against Master Calibration Standards with accuracies better than 0.005%. Stabimatic Potentiometers and Standard Cells from H. Tinsley and Co. Ltd., Croydon, U.K. and John Fluke Manufacturing Co., USA, 6 1/2 Digits Digital Multimeter from John Fluke Manufacturing Co., USA and 8 1/2 Digits Digital Multimeter from Agilent Technologies, United States, are maintained at Vaiseshika Facilities which, in turn, are maintaining complete traceability to the National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi (India).

 

Traceability: Vaiseshika Resistance Standards are now available with NABL, New Delhi (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) traceability calibration certificates.

 

Vaiseshika Electron Devices, Ambala Cantt, has received accreditation for its Metrology Laboratory from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, New Delhi. The NABL accreditation for Vaiseshika Metrology Laboratory means that the measurement capabilities and calibration standards at Vaiseshika are compliant to ISO/IEC 17025:2005 standards.

"Vaiseshika" High Stability Decade Megohm Box has been designed and fabricated for the First Time in India to provide Calibration Standard for Meggers, Insulation Testers, Insulation Bridges, Megohm Meters, Digital Meters and components comparison. The resistance range is offered from 0.1 megaohm to 10.0 teraohms distributed over eight dials. This instrument employs silver alloy silver plated and silver alloy gold plated switches mounted on high insulation ceramic wafers / phenolic material.

"Vaiseshika" Portable Wheatstone Bridge Type 9401 has been specially designed for the measurement of resistance in the range 0.01 ohm to 1.0 Megohm. The resistance measurement spectrum provided in the equipment is coupled with excellent accuracy of the order of ±0.05%. These exquisite capabilities have been realized in this equipment by using non-inductive imported manganin wire (German Make). In addition, precision phosphor-bronze silver plated band switches have been utilized to minimise the contact resistance errors to 0.0005 ohm per switch. The manganin coils have been subjected to long ageing process to eliminate the possible variations in the resistive value due to climatic temperature variations. All the coils have been properly insulated with high grade insulation material to arrest the variation in the values.

 

A built-in taut suspension galvanometer, having high order sensitivity and resolution, has been provided to obtain a very sharp and accurate null point. This galvanometer has been provided with built-in systems to obtain critical damping conditions in all settings along with constant terminal resistance. Terminal connections are available in the instrument to connect the bridge to an external battery for more precision measurements. Similarly any spot deflection galvanometer can be equally connected externally at separate terminations.

 

"Vaiseshika" Portable Wheatstone Bridge Type 9401 has multiple facilities. The same instrument can be used in different universal applications. The instrument can be used to measure the resistance with ±0.05% accuracy. It can also be used to locate faults in cables by Varley and Murray Lop Test. Above all the instrument can be used as standard resistance substitution box of accuracy ±0.05%. The Air Cooled DC Shunt type 9410 covers a wide range of current from 1.5 ampere to 3000 Ampere. The shunts are constructed from high grade manganin. The manganin strips are mounted on all the current terminals with the help of high quality silver brazing solder wire. The entire DC Shunt is mounted on a strong base and whenever required is fitted with a protecting cover to enable the convection currents to keep the DC Shunt cooled to the ambient temperature.

    "Vaiseshika" DC STANDARD RESISTOR 9409 has been designed and fabricated to meet the standard calibration requirements. These Standard Resistors can be used for calibration.

     

    To ensure stringent accuracy, high degree of stability and utmost reliability, the Manganin wire and strips have been used to construct Standard resistors. These Standards incorporates the manganin coils which have been subjected to prolonged ageing and heat treatment, to improve stability and to reduce temperature coefficient. Joints are silver soldered with copper being used for connection to terminals. Resistance elements is sealed in aluminium container having moisture free oil. Use of oil improves cooling effect which inturn imparts greater stability to resistance.
