2. Treatment:

   • Oropharyngeal candidiasis, especially in cases refractory to other treatments.
   • Other fungal infections, including zygomycosis, fusariosis, and chromoblastomycosis, particularly in patients who are intolerant to or have infections resistant to other antifungal agents.

Posaconazole is a triazole antifungal that works by inhibiting the enzyme lanosterol 14-alpha-demethylase, crucial for converting lanosterol to ergosterol. Ergosterol is an essential component of the fungal cell membrane. By inhibiting its synthesis, posaconazole disrupts the cell membrane, leading to fungal cell death.

  • For prophylaxis, the typical dose is 300 mg twice a day on the first day, followed by 300 mg once daily.
