THE FACTS THAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT YOGA

Yoga was founded by the wise thinkers of India several thousand years ago to offer simple ways and means to keep us healthy, stay peaceful and lead a rather much more contented life.

Many Yoga practices are taken from the natural kingdom of birds, animals and nature as a whole, keeping in view the secrets of healthy living of birds and animals etc. who lead a much healthy life without any man made medicine.

Yogis believe that the contradiction in our words, actions and thinking can contribute to our unhappiness and many health problems hence the need of keeping harmony in our words, deeds and thoughts. Skillfulness in action is Yoga and not abandoning ones duties, says Yogeshwar Krishna, the author of the world’s most knowledgeable scripture, GITA. Yoga ensures a perfect balance and poise during extremes of pleasure and pain, loss or gain, heat or cold, respect or disrespect. Yoga shows us the way to rise from evil to goodness, from goodness to holiness and finally from holiness to the spiritual ecstasy.

The Ashtanga Yoga (8-step yoga) is so wonderfully designed by India’s one of the most learned sage called Maharishi Patanjali(2500 years ago ) that whosoever adopts it in his life, invariably finds himself completely transformed : physically ,psychologically, socially and spiritually. Yogic practices are designed in such a way as can fully counter-balance most of the ill effects of our modern living styles and everyone , regardless of ones caste, Colour, creed, race and nationalily.
As has already been enumerated more than once, Yoga is not merely just another form of exercise but a whole way of wonderful living –that makes our life not only healthier but also much more fulfilling not only for ourselves but also for all other human beings of the world without any distinction.

Unfortunately most of the new age Yoga Gurus do not take into account most of the above stated basic values of Yoga while prescribing Yoga program to their students or patients and resultantly deprive a large number of seekers of the profound benefits of Yoga. There is nothing like Yoga that can help one attain self-realization and experience the universal spirit within us. The pathways are many like Hatha Yoga, Raja Yoga, Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga and Gyan Yoga etc. but the wise Sadhakas must choose their own Yoga which suits their age, capability, health problem, profession and their specific goals.

HOW YOGA CAN SAVE US FROM DESPARE & DISAPPOINTMENTS

It has been experienced by millions of people that only Yoga practices can help one live a contended, purposeful and happy life under all circumstances .Therefore one must adopt all the segments of Yoga as have been enumerated in the original texts of Yoga. According to the Vedas and Upanishads (ancient scriptures of spiritual wisdom), human birth is a ladder that can be used to liberate us from the cycle of births and deaths and I can vouch with certainty that the benefits of Yoga can go several thousand fold more if the seekers are not made to focus on their body only and that too by adopting Yogasanas only but also are given all other segments of Yoga by their Yoga Gurus.

Meditation

Meditation
What is Meditation?

Meditation is the only key to perfect health, mental peace of mind and spiritual growth

Meditation is not a religion or cult as many believe, nor it is an escape from once duties nor it is a state of passivity or idleness nor is meditation in any way a form of day or night dreaming. In fact it is an incessant endeavor to withdraw your mind from thinking process to profound silence. Meditation leads to the realization of all i.e. noblest, highest, greatest and is very essential in our lives-living all undesirable stuff of the world far behind. By now it has been established scientifically world over beyond any doubt that anyone who practices and succeeds in performing proper meditation regularly on physical front. It can lowers heart bit rate, increase resistance against disease, lowers high BP, control diabetes, can relax quickly, enjoys sound sleep, can overcome fatigue, slows down aging and can help in migraine too. Even the serious patients of cancer, colitis and I.B.S have be found to be relived of their suffering to a god degree. On the mental front the unfailing impact t of meditation is one can cope with stress in a much better way, gets almost instant peace and develop a strong will power and positive attitude even in the most adverse situation once focusing power also gets a good boost. Besides good concentration of the mind which is so essential for every one to get success in life on spiritual front the regular practitioner of meditation leads a much more contented life even if there are no significant materialistic achievements in life, becomes more compassionate towards others, specially the underprivileged people and feels pleasure in giving- not in taking, and despite living in this world of lust, anger, greed, ego, attachment. One can escape from the deleterious impact of these strong enemies and is always feeling the presence of good within or without all the time. After reading the enormous benefits of Meditation anyone, in the whole world, is bound to be fascinated to take to meditation. However, when it comes to emptying your mind it invariably proves to be Herculean task, because the nature of the mind is to wander about as the nature of the fire is to burn the things. Particularly about the power of mind it is said by the wise thinkers of the world that there is nothing in the world that can travel faster than the thoughts of the mind. Nevertheless, there have been innumerable great thinkers, yogis, sages and spiritualists who have been exploring and devising innumerable methods of Meditation techniques for silencing the mind, in many countries of the world. Though a vast majority of such exalted souls emanated in the eastern countries yet the methods of Meditation devised by Indian Yogis have caught the fancy of billions of people all over the world.

There have been a lot of Indian Yogis who have been recommending a variety of Meditation techniques, though all the techniques have their own merits and utility yet nothing can beat the perfect setting and composition of the most comprehensive, step by step preparation for meditation as have been enumerated in Yog Darshan Shastra by Maharishi Patanjali which is known as Ashtang Yoga also. He even emphasizes Maharishi Patanjali emphasizes on practising Yama, Nujama, Asanas, Pranayama and Pralya hara etc. before taking to Dhasna Dhyur & Samadhi Perfecting of Meditative Asanas before actually practicing Meditation, hence the need of learning some of the Meditative poses, before Meditation, is considered very imperative.

Naturopathy

What is Naturopathic Medicine?
Naturopathic medicine is based on the belief that the human body has an innate healing ability. Naturopathic doctors (NDs) teach their patients to use diet, exercise, lifestyle changes and cutting edge natural therapies to enhance their bodies’ ability to ward off and combat disease. NDs view the patient as a complex, interrelated system (a whole person), not as a clogged artery or a tumor. Naturopathic physicians craft comprehensive treatment plans that blend the best of modern medical science and traditional natural medical approaches to not only treat disease, but to also restore health

The Origins of Naturopathy

The principles of Naturopathy were first used by the Hippocratic School of Medicine in about 400B.C. The Greek philosopher Hippocrates believed in viewing the whole person in regards to finding a cause of disease, and using the laws of nature to induce cure. It was from this original school of thought that Naturopathy takes its principles.

  • The healing power of nature- nature has the innate ability to heal
  • Identify and treat the cause - there is always an underlying cause, be it physical or emotional
  • Do no harm- a Naturopath will never use treatments that may create other conditions
  • Treat the whole person- when preparing a treatment plan, all aspects of a person’s being are taken into consideration
  • The physician as teacher- a Naturopath empowers the patient to take responsibility for his/her own health by teaching self-care
  • Prevention is better than cure - a Naturopath may remove toxic substances and situations from a patient’s lifestyle to prevent the onset of further disease

Modern orthodox medicine, apart from all its positive and beneficial attributes, does not subscribe to this idea of wholism or to the importance of prevention. As long ago as the second century BC, the Yellow Emperor, in the Classic of Internal Medicine, said A doctor who treats a disease after it has happened is a mediocre doctor..a doctor who treats a disease before it happens is a superior doctorIndeed Chinese physicians were paid to keep their patients healthy and were either dismissed or not paid if the patient became ill. This ensured a health system, not an ill health system, as we know it. Unfortunately this understanding has changed to a new paradigm-wait until it is broken and then fix it. This is not intelligent medicine and part of a Naturopath’s role is empowering the patient to take responsibility for his or her own health. This is not always an easy task amid a hostile environment of toxins and chemicals.

The modern day Naturopath faces many more challenges than those of their forefathers. Most of us now live in a sea of electromagnetic pollution, coupled with a plethora of chemical pollutants which were completely alien to man 40 years ago. Add to this a dose of denatured food fast-tracked by technology and we have a heady mix of health problems waiting to happen. In short most people have too much of what they shouldn’t have in their bodies and not enough of what they should have.

The Naturopath of today needs a very eclectic approach to meet these challenges and guide their patients back to vibrant health. Whilst never losing sight of the basic fundamentals of the naturecure, the modern-day Naturopath might employ a raft of skills such as herbs, homoeopathy, manipulation, flower essences, acupuncture or biochemical supplementation to augment their work. These may be necessary to offset many of the suppressions brought about through living in our modern times with all its concomitant stresses that seek to strangle the life force in our bodies.
